Sunday 1st February 2015.
“And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” They immediately left their nets and followed Him. Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. He called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him” (Matt 4:18-22).
One of the reasons why Christ’s believers are not taken to heaven immediately after conversion is for them to be witnesses of Jesus to their people and their world. When Jesus called His first disciples according to the Scripture passage above, he said: “Follow Me and I will make you fishers of men”, and so they were when Jesus was with them on earth and after His departure to heaven. Examples of these abound very much in the New Testament. Thus:
Ø One of the two who heard John speak, and followed Him was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him: “We have found the Messiah” (which is translated the Christ). And he brought him to Jesus.
Ø The following day, Jesus wanted to go to Galilee, and found Philip and said to him: “Follow Me” Philip found Nathaniel and said to Him: “We have found Him of whom Moses in the law, and also the prophets wrote – Jesus of Nazareth, the Son of Joseph. And Nathaniel said to him: “Can anything good come out of Nazareth? Philip said to him, come and see” Jesus saw Nathaniel coming toward Him, and said to him, “Behold an Israelite indeed in whom is no deceit!” (John 1:40-42, 45-47).
Ø The adulteress Samaritan woman who found Christ and was saved at the well in Sychar, “…left her waterpot, went her way into the city, and said to the men, “come, see a Man who told me all things that I ever did, “Could this be the Christ? Then they went out of the city and came to Him (John 4:28-30).
Ø The lunatic man whom Jesus healed: “…departed and began to proclaim in Decapolis all that Jesus had done for him and all marveled” (Mark 5:20). We are told that Decapolis was a region with ten cities. This man went through and told the people what Jesus had done for him.
Ø The early believers who were scattered because of the persecution in Jerusalem: “…went every where preaching the word”. Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria and preached Christ to them (Acts 8:4-5). I can still cite more examples but the above is enough for the wise.
This is the mission of the church on earth then and now. This is the vision and mission of the Gospel Faith Mission International, right from the beginning of the church and must continue till the rapture. Everyone who claims to be a member of GOFAMINT must be a soul-winner. GOFAMINT is a soul-winning church and every true member should be involved in this noble ministry. If you have indeed found Christ and have been converted, you cannot afford to seal your mouth, you will witness to Christ.
Every Pastor should understand that he and members of his church are a team of Evangelists. He should teach them how to fish for men and women and bring them to Christ. Paul instructed Timothy to do the work of an Evangelist: “But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry” (2 Tim 4:5). This is how the church grows and expands, your church should not be an exception. Go out as from today individually and collectively and bring sinners to Christ and He will back you up and bless you (Acts 1:8, Matt 28:18-20). Let everyone win at least a single soul to his/her church this year and you will see the joy of new birth in your church.
