“Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires. Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell. For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so. Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening? Can a fig tree, my brethren, bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh” (James 3:4-12).
This Scripture quote is a long one, yes, so that you will see what it is all about. One of the most important parts of our human body is the tongue. With it; we talk, with it; we sing, with it; we eat, with it; we feel how delicious a meal is, with the tongue,; we bless, with it; we praise, alas with it; we curse, abuse, and gossip. Our tongue is not made to be used in negative ways. Every Child of God should learn to discipline him/herself about how he/she uses his/her tongue. The tongue is not created in the parts of our body to be used in negative ways but positive ways. Some of us flatter with our tongue, only for our selfish interests, others use their tongues to curse, deceive, tell lies and even gossip, these negative ways of using our tongue is not befitting of a child of God. Gossip is an enemy of unity. A gossip is a destroyer of relationships, he/she goes from one person to another with unreliable stories and tales, thereby sowing discord among the brethren, you need to steer clear from those kind of people in the Church, they are not the type to peer with. If you listen or follow them, you will be like them and your prayers and blessings will be hindered because God hates a talebearer or a gossip. “You shall not go about as a talebearer among your people; nor shall you take a stand against the life of your neighbor, I am the LORD” (Lev. 19:16). “Where there is no wood, the fire goes out; and where there is no tale-bearer, strife ceases…The words of a tale-bearer are like tasty trifles, And they go down into the in most body” (Prov 26:20,22). From the passages in the word of God, it is of note to be careful of the gossip or a talebearer, if you are a gossip of talebearer you are an enemy of unity and cordial relationship which God wants to see functioned in His family, the Church. It is high time gossips among us repented before it is too late. We are taught to bless, praise and appreciate, but not to misuse our tongue. As from today, you will do well to discipline yourself how to use your tongue, beware of how you use it, for your own interest and the interest of others. Thank you for your compliance.
