“Now in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots. And Peter, remembering, said to Him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree which You cursed has withered away.” So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God. “For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. “Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them” (Mark 11:20-24).
The event that brought about the topic of this message has to do with a fig tree which Jesus saw the previous day and wanted to cash some fruit on the fig tree but He found none. For this reason, Jesus cursed the fig tree because it was fruitless (it failed to fulfill the purpose of its existence). This also teaches us that a Christian who fails to bear fruit of good works, fruit of the Spirit, and soul-winning is failing and does not please God. Therefore, you should endeavour as a Christian to bear fruit. Jesus cursed the fig tree because it had no fruit on it. The following morning, when they were returning from their journey, they found that the tree had withered even to the roots. This surprised the apostles, so Peter asked the Lord why it was so, that Jesus spoke and the thing He said came to pass. Then Jesus said: “Have faith in God”.
Faith in God is one of the essentials to receiving the blessings of God, and what makes us different from other people in the world. Without faith, it is impossible to please God (Heb 11:6). You see many so-called Christians running helter-skelter, they go from one prayer mountain to another to pray and to receive material possessions they think will solve their problems but all to no avail. Why? They lack faith in God. He who wants to receive from God must learn to believe and trust in God. A doubter cannot receive anything from God. Fasting and prayer without faith is a waste of time and energy (James 1:5-8). “Faith means being sure of the things we hope for and knowing that something is real even if we do not see it” (Heb. 11:1 NCV). It was faith in God that rescued Noah and his family from the destruction of the flood, while the unbelieving world perished. It was faith in God that made Abraham the father of nations when God called him (Abraham) the father of nations by which time he did not even have a single legitimate child. “…God calls those things which did not exist as though they did” (Rom. 4:17b). In the event of the story of this message, Jesus taught the disciples how to pray and receive answers to their prayers because our God is able to do all things: Jesus taught that “whatever things we ask when we pray, we should believe that we receive them, and we will receive them (Mark 11:23). It is time for you to stop doubting God, the Bible tells us that God is able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all that we ask or think (in prayer) according to the power (of faith) that works in us (Eph. 3:20). I challenge you to stop your doubt and “Have Faith in God”
