For none of us lives to himself, and no one dies to himself. 8 For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s (Rm. 14:7,8).
Although emphasis has been laid at one time or another as to why we Christians are in the world but too many of us have not taken it seriously. If God had wanted us to leave this world and be ushered into glory immediately we are converted He could do it. If He found it necessary for you and I to have left this world after our conversion He surely could have done that quite long ago. But He leaves us here for certain reasons and purpose which we (and no other group) could fulfill because we are His. You wonder when I say no other group could do and that we are His. Are others in the world (besides Christians) not God’s?
They are God’s by creation but not by relationship or redemption but they could become if they believe and accept Christ as the Son of God and Savior who died and rose for our sin then they could be counted among God’s own people. “For we are all Sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus” (Gal.3:26). And there is difference between the children of God and the children of Satan, “In this the children of God and the children of the devil is manifest; whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother.” (Jn.3:10) God has His reasons for which He leaves us in the world today and He desires that we should live to fulfill that purpose.
Why are we now here in the world? You as Christians are here in the world to live to the Lord, not for yourself, not for the world but only for Him. We are here on earth to break up the fallow ground, to occupy the territory where sin is still reigning, we are here as sowers to spread and scatter the good news of the gospel to nations and peoples that the seed may also germinate and bear fruit. We are here as the publisher of the good news of salvation to people who live far and near; to fulfill the task of the Great Commission which no other group on earth is assigned to carry out. There is only one way available to get to God and His Kingdom that only way is Jesus. We are here as workers together with God. After Jesus’ resurrection He breathed on His disciples and said, “As the Father sent Me, I also send you” (Jn 20:21). The early and immediate disciples carried out the task so also were the early church until the baton became our turn; this is one of the important reasons why you and I as Christians are in the world.
We are here as the epistles of Christ which the world would read and be attracted to our God. Someone has said, “Jesus is God spelling Himself out in language that man can understand.” We are here to be the same for God and Christ out Savior.
We are here as the salt of the earth, to add value to the lives of so many people who are on earth living their lives aimlessly and without purpose. Wherever you are you are expected to turn the bitterness in people’s lives to sweetness. We are here as the light of the world to shed the true light of God and godliness into the darkness of this world. Our Lord is the light of the world when he was physically staying in the world. But when He left the world He transferred that light to us, that is why we must rise and shine. We are here to show this unbelieving and dark world the light of God through our words, deeds, actions and love which we demonstrate to people. It is a rare privilege to be all the stuff I’ve mentioned let us appreciate God and take our position to live to the Lord representing Him in every facet of life, and the Lord will help us.
Remain blessed in Jesus name.
