“Are not two little sparrows sold for a[a]copper coin? And yet not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will.30 But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered[for the Father is sovereign and has complete knowledge]” (Matt 10:29-31).
God is a caring Father and Creator. He cares for all of what He created, even up to the little ants; He never lives them uncared for. In one of Jesus’ teachings in His public ministry, He emphasized how God His father and our heavenly Father (by way of adoption) care for us, His creature that He created in His image and likeness. The Lord Jesus made this truth known to his disciples when He sent them out to preach the gospel of the kingdom of God. He foreknew that they would be persecuted by the Jewish people but that His disciples should not be worried about what people or enemies of the gospel would do or plan against them. He assured them that His father whose eye is on the sparrow would keep watch over them. He told them in effect that as small as the sparrows are and seem worthless that ‘two are sold for a penny’ (verse 29). Yet, not one of them will fall to the ground without the consent or permission of our heavenly Father who created them. He went on to say that: “…the very hairs of your head are all numbered (verse 30)”.
That is the kind of God who you and I are serving. He takes care of us, He is always mindful of us. He has promised that He will never forget nor forsake us in whatever situation we may be passing through in life. He is always there for us. But sometimes as human beings, we find ourselves in situations we think that God does not even remember or think about us. But as much as our God, our heavenly Father is concerned, He will never forget us nor forsake us even in hard situations, when we feel alone. We have references in the Bible that could serve as anchor of the soul in situations beyond our control. For example, when Jacob fled from his father’s house to escape for his life because of Esau who was chasing him to kill him, Jacob felt he was alone but God appeared to him and spoke in a night dream thus: “” (Gen 28:13 Amp Bible).
The same happened to Joseph in all his persecutions and troubles, the Bible repeatedly says: “but the Lord was with Joseph” (see Gen 39:2-6). All along, God was using every kind of hardship in his life as means of leading him to the place where he would fulfill God’s plan for his life. Today, Joseph is a good reference point to both secular and religious worlds. Your present situation is not an exception; you need to exercise patience, perseverance and faithfulness to God. He would work everything out for your good. And wherever you are, as long as you do not involve in sin, His eye is on you, as much as it is on the sparrow.
The Song: His Eye Is On the Sparrow by Civilla D. Martin (Word) and Charles H. Gabriel (Music) may help you.
Why should I feel discouraged, why should the shadows come,
Why should my heart be lonely, and long for heav’n and home,
When Jesus is my portion? My constant Friend is He:
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
Refrain:
I sing because I’m happy,
I sing because I’m free,
For His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.
