Core Message Of The Kingdom’s Gospel
Matt. 4:12-17
In Matt. 3:1-12, John the Baptist’s role as precursor to Jesus is emphasised and his message is described as one of repentance and preparations. A school of thought says that the arrest of John served as the stimulus for the beginning of Jesus’ public ministry. The passage read this morning gives an account of Christ’s preaching in the Synagogue of Galilee. In fulfilment of prophet Isaiah’s prophecy in Isaiah 9:1-2, Jesus preached the core message of God’s kingdom to the people so that those who lived in darkness could come into the light that gives salvation. Christ put a great respect upon John’s ministry when He preached the same core message of repentance which John had earlier preached to the people (Matt. 3:8). The core message of the Church should centre on repentance so that genuine repentance can be accompanied by the fruits of righteousness.
Point of Emphasis: Let not the preaching of repentance cease in our church.
Prayer Point: Help me O Lord to preach repentance to those living in darkness.
